Netgear offers mobile broadband service with routers
Netgear is starting to sell 4G mobile broadband along with its mobile hotspot devices. Unveiled at CES in Las Vegas, the Netgear Around Town Mobile Internet offer is available initially in the US on the Sprint network. The AirCard hotspot allows users to connect up to ten devices to the 802.11n Wi-Fi network. It will sell for USD 199.99 including 1 GB of data that doesn’t expire. Users can add more data at a cost of USD 25 per GB, with no contract required. The device can be extended with MIMO antennas and Gigabit Ethernet with the optional Boosting Cradle for USD 69.99. Both devices are for sale on Amazon.
At CES, Netgear also introduced new features for its premium Nighthawk routers. This includes Netgear ReadyCloud support and an enhanced Netgear genie for remote management of the Nighthawk AC1900. The Nighthawk range also includes the new AC1900 WiFi Range Extender for USD 199.99 for up to 1,900 Mbps of dual-band Wi-Fi.
For the cable market, Netgear unveiled the CM500 Docsis 3.0 modem. It supports 16×4 channel bonding, for 16 download and four upload channels simultaneously. The device is aimed at Comcast customers and comes with IPv6 and Gigabit Ethernet. It will sell for USD 99.99.
For home networks and small offices, Netgear introduced the ProSafe Click Switch, available in 8- and 16-port Gigabit Ethernet models. It’s designed to improve cable management and reduce cords, with a new mounting system for connected devices. It comes with a bracket that can be connected to a wall, table or pole, and the switch then ‘clicks’ into place. With vertical and horizontal mounting possible, four orientations for ports are available. An attached strap gathers together cables to keep them out of sight, and it also comes with two USB charging ports. The Click Switch costs USD 69.99 for the 8-port model and USD 169.99 for 16 ports.
